I must look for his book then..I didnt see the circus..I might be able to find it, some of the smaller bookshops keep the magazines for longer. He is like jean greenhowe, not that they make the same things but in that they make toys exciting but also very much “playable”

I forgot.....His (ALAN DART) new book is out and all his designs are in it including the ARK. I already have most of his stuff from the Womans Weekly from years ago. I stopped getting WW when they started to go for the younger market and stopped doing the knitting patterns in favour of “trendy” stuff.

Hi Gill,

I remember as a child looking forward to my mum’s Woman’s Weekly mag arriving with the newspaper each week!! I was probably one of its youngest fans at the time.

At that age it was the pattern’s I was waiting for and would knit things up for my little sisters if mum had spare bits and pieces suitable. Mum must have found it a good way to keep her eldest quiet and happily occupied while she tended to my younger sisters, I look back and realise how crafty she was, if I complained I could not master something she would say she was busy just now but if I kept trying til she had time she would help me sort it out, rather than sit with me and show me immediately, I guess that way I sorted most problems out before she turned up! That was probably when I learned to experiment and make alternatives work with a little trial and error - needs must, that kinda thing -

Every now and again I buy one in the hope that they have eased back into the old formula but like you am dissappointed with the ‘new’ version.

When I went to secondary school we had a permanent charity table and pupils and staff took in stuff to sell and the money raised went to ‘War on Want’. I took all the stuff I made in as I was addicted to making anything and mum did not want the clutter of all the finished things. My school reports regularly said that if I had spent half as much time with schoolwork as I had on my charitable makes I might have had a chance of passing something ! Well I still knit sew and crochet everything I can so it set me up for a happy LOL life anyway!!!! tongue wink grin

I bet it will be out every week. I think I prefer ALAN DART to JEAN GREENHOWE.  JG does cute very well whereas AD seems to get more character into his designs. They are all a pleasure to make but for me the struggle is trying to decide which to do first.  confused red face

I remember MY mum getting WW but you being disappointed has made me feel a lot better, I thought it was me being in GRANNY mode!!!!! Much as it is good to encourage the younger generation I do wish that the LOLs were not being pushed quite so far out!!! I was looking on the stands at the newsagents and they were almost all for younger women. Mind you No1 says she cannot find ANY mags she can relate to. She does,nt DO celebrity, fashion or kids and there is,nt much left.

At least we both enjoy LK. Me for the knitting and No1 for what she can get ME to knit for HER!! LOL

A pale grey ribbed waistcoat for the summer and ANOTHER DALEK!!!!!.

BTW. I had a look at the new Alan Dart book while in town today and the circus is not in there so if anyone wants to knit it you need last issue AND this months Simply Knitting. It must be his latest design, it,s great.
