Hi,

I’m Heidi. I’ve been lurking around this forum for a little while now and thought it was about time to post something! It would’ve been something I’d knitted but I’m too busy with my uni work at the moment to find time to knit, although I do have time to type!! I’m calling it my revision break! Anyways, I’m 21 and have been knitting on and off for a few years now, haven’t yet made anything too spectacular but I have big plans for my long summer! I’m a right-handed person that knits left-handed, long story, don’t ask, unless you really want to know! And this means that I tend to knit quite slowly because it’s not quite the natural way for me to do things but I’m not clever enough to switch it all around so I’ll stick with left-handed for now! If anyone else out there is the same as me in this respect I’d love to hear from you!! Just for curiosity’s sake! Oh, I’ve just started spinning as well, I mean just! I have a drop spindle and have made one small skein of novelty yarn which I like to stroke fondly on occassion! I can’t think of much else exciting about my knitting or knitting related habits! Looking forward to getting more involved on the forum!

Heidi

Welcome Heidi.  Don’t worry about how you knit as long as you enjoy it.  I look dreadful when I knit because I’ve never mastered keeping my hand on my right needle while I put the yarn round.  I drop my right needle every time, or just rest it on my ample stomach.  I’ve just started to learn how to crochet and I do it exactly the same way, although luckily enough my stomach isn’t so big I can rest a crochet hook on it

hello and welcome to the forum! so glad you decided to post. How difficult is it to spin? I’ve only just taken up knitting and I’m intrigued by the thought of spinning my own yarn.

Hi Suse! I’m not sure my spinning is perfect but it is liveable! It’s really not that difficult. I just got a drop spindle starter kit from ebay. I’ve got a pic of my yarn on craftster, I think you can look at it as a guest, or sign up! The url is http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=243699.msg2691940#msg2691940
I’m just-heidi on there as well. It’s really chunky and I aim to make my next attempt finer. It wasn’t hard though and if you’ve been thinking of trying it then I think a drop spindle kit is quite a cheap way to go about it, mine was something like £12. There’s loads of good websites that can help with learning to spin as well. If you want any links just let me know and I’ll come up with some.

hey Heidi,

I’m studying english and history and hoping to go into teaching with it! I’ve another year to go next year (a separate course) to be a qualified teacher but this year is the final year of my degree, next year is a postgraduate course.

You hoping to go into teaching also?

I’ll try to enjoy my summer on the hunt for summer work at the mo!

Good luck with your exams, let us know how they go!

Hi Natalie,

I’ve got a place on a secondary Maths PGCE for next year, staying on at Leeds. What teaching course are you doing? I’d guess your subject as either English or History? I’ve got my summer job lined up already so after Thursday next week I’ll have very little to worry about! Hope you manage to find something and that you get the results you want from your finals.

I haven’t really got any plans for my yarn yet Suse. I thought scarf straight away because there’s not all that much of it, but I am a bit of a scarf hoarder! I’m open to suggestions if you have any!!
