Hi Tasha,
I live in Glasgow and I know that K1 yarns has just opened an Edinburgh branch in Victoria Street. The Glasgow branch is small but very friendly.  It mostly stocks quite expensive yarns, lots of hand dyed stuff and unusual fibres.  Also in Edinburgh is McAree Brothers in the New Town which has a really good selection. Their website is good too.  Jenners sells yarn as well and they seem to have regular special offers so that might be worth a look.  So Edinburgh knitters are quite well catered for really!
Bye, Karen.

Hi Sockmonster Had couple of nice weekends in Perth and have friends of my mother-in-laws in kirriemiur its a nice wee place.
Bye Anne

Yes, Perth is good for a night out too, but the wool shop in Kirriemuir is one of the best and the people who run it have a gorgeous wee dog that sometimes sits in the shop too

Thanks sockmonster.  I tend not to go to the market as I have 2 young boys (very unrulely (sp)) but might try.  The others might have to wait till have saved up for some good yarn.  I think I have been to a Di Gilpin shop in St Andrews? is it the same one?

Yes its the same thing but a smaller branch in Perth

Yep, I stay in Scotland too.  No-one from Motherwell yet, so I could be the first.  Originally from England but moved up many years ago.  So long ago, that I have the twang of a Scottish accent.  I agree with the fab knitting shop in Newburgh.  I took my parents there, just have a browse around.  Dad had to get his cheque book out as Mum had her eye on a new spinning wheel.  Yep, we came back with the new spinning wheel, which just about squeezed into the car.

Hi I’m in fife, and the shops are quite poor round here. I liked Jenners but haven’t been over since they have changed the department.

My fav shop is Niffty Needles in Linlthgow. There are loads of different crafts and the ladies are really nice.  kiss

We met Laura who owns the Newburgh shop when she worked in Loose Threads in Perth (its closed now) and we just had to go to her shop when she opened it. It used to be further up the street but I much prefer the new one, you’ll need to take your mum back for one of the classes, i took my mum to a rag rug class and she was temporalily obsessed with rags!

Hi Rachel...I visited Loose Threads when we were in Perth but noticed last year when we were back there that it had closed.  I also go to the New Wool Shop on Methven Street which is good too.
Could you tell me where Newburgh is which you mention....is it near Perth?  I am from the south of Ayrshire and we are often up your way at weekends for a drive.  I love visiting any yarn shops I come across and often go back to them. The shop in Newburgh sounds great.  Thanks smile

And another Scottish person over here. I’m on the west coast near Helensburgh. Gorgeous place to live, but not so good for feeding my stash wink

Mind you, I have discovered there is a weaving, spinning and knitting group in the next door village that meets once a week, so I’m attempting to pluck up my courage and go say hi to them all one day…

Hi, I’m not good at directions but from Glasgow if you come off at the Broxden roundabout and follow signs for Bridge of Earn it is signposted from there, I can get there but i’m not good at telling people how to get places, if you go on her website it might give you a map, her shop is called Twist Fibre Studio. Also, on the way to her shop there is a farm shop called Jamesfield and they have a lovely wee restaurant and the serve all their own organic food, the soup is lovely, mmmmmm

Hi, I go to a knitting/craft group in my village and it is great, Very friendly.  Each week there is the same question “What are you knitting?” it is also a great place for getting advice.  Go and you will not want to miss a week!!

Hi Everyone
I’m from Scotland too - just outside Paisley. Just joined. This is the first time I have subscribed to a Forum and I am really looking forward to seeing all the different posts.  I had been an avid knitter years ago when my daughter was small then went right off it.  About 2 years ago I started again when I heard I was going to be a Granny for the first time, now I knit whenever I can, especially for my wee grandson.
Isn’t the Lets Knit mag really good - I think I have bought them all and think this is the most interesting.  Although I have knitted for many years I feel I learn such a lot from mags… tips and hints etc.
Bye for now
Cath
