Hi everyone I am new to this site and new to knitting, and having a problem with a pattern. and wondered if any one could help. its probably so easy but I can’t figure it out.
its cast off 4 sts at beg (neck edge )of next row. 2sts at same edge of following 2 alt rows then dec 1st at beg of next 3 alt rows. does that mean casting off 2 sts on one row then knitting a row and then casting off 2 sts on the next row, I am baffled!!!!!!!!!!
thanks

does sound confusing but is not really.
cast of 2 stitches
knit 1 row
cast of 2 sts
knit 1 row…

I usually find that decrease is knit2tog but cast off is just that. casting off gives a different edge to your work, whereas dec is knit2tog which gives your edge a slope.

hi
gill 1946
yes think thats what I was after a slope up the side of the neck, this pattern has been a struggle from the word go, I used Elle escapade wool, but not every ball of wool matched up so spent ages trying to match the colours otherwise the stripes would not of matched up, perhaps I should have used a single couloured wool to start off.well I will think twice before using that again.

Dont forget when you buy wool in future to check the colour code on the ball band. the DYE No AND batch No.  Any wool shop will help and when you knit stripes try to keep your different colours in seperate clear poly bags then you can see what you are doing. This also keeps the wool from getting tangled up smile
