I am not annoyed Nessa, just incredibly sad.

Personally I love to feel yarns and see their true colours that you can only do in a shop.

But this is a small place and no one seems to have much money, so none of the shops here is doing that well. We have a brief few weeks in the summer when visitors are here, but the rest of the year is a struggle just to pay the bills.
Sad but that’s life. blank stare

hi everyone, this is my first post!!

I struggle to find a wool shop in my area ( Newark/Nottingham).  We have a nice little shop in the village but the wool there is very expensive and like several of you I am on a tight budget.  Any ideas where I can shop?

Thanks Gill1946.  Nice to meet you too!

I haven’t been into Aldi, although I know there is one in Newark. I love wool shops, seeing all the colours and textures, and you can get alot of inspiration from a visit. It is this aspect that I miss.  The shop in the village sells Debbie Bliss and 100% wool hence the reason for the price. I would love to browse, so ideally would like to find an old fashioned wool shop the type I used to visit with my Mum many moons ago!!  Hope to chat again.  Alisonb

Unfortunately as PAULAC says those sorts of woolshops are a dying breed thanks to the internet. But, as I have said before on here ..it is not the same being able to have a good feel of the different wools before you buy them, especially if your budget is a bit tight!!!  I was looking at the NORO wool in the mags but when I found it in a wool shop and had a feel I really did not like it, and as it costs an arm and a leg to buy enough for a garment it could have been a costly mistake.

Hello everyone!

this is my first post, so quite fun. i’m quite a young knitter (21!) on a medical student budget (ie very little!).

i found my local yarn shop, knit2together near Stoke-On-Trent which had lovely ladies working and a massive selection. i picked up some 100% merino rowan biggy print on sale for £1.50 a ball, retails at £7.95 so was very pleased with my hat.

i later found out they have a fab website

http://www.cucumberpatch.co.uk

with some great bargain yarns plus more expensive luxery ones (check out the Rowan anf Jaeger), so i feel like im getting the best of both worlds, browsing online plus popping in for advice and supporting my little nearby shop.

You have to visit Gills’ link of http://www.abakhan co uk

They sell 10x100g in certain Sirdar for £11, that’s a third of the RRP.

Noodles posted a thread about this some weeks ago, she said the wool from here was lovely and she had made a bag with it.

B&M;have some lovely baby yarns in for 80p a ball at the moment, and some gorgeous aran. All 100% acrylic but it’s really soft and nice to knit with. Will have a look in Aldi now someone has mentioned it.

I’m lucky enough to live near Aberkhan in Manchester but I don’t find it that good, I think they’re quite expensive compared to some of the smaller shops you find on markets and such.
