Thanks Nicky, as I just told Gill I miss Harvey but he’ll be happy in London. There was a grey squirrel in the garden at my sons and my D-in-L thought Harvey had the same face as the squirrel. Apparently they get squirrels and foxes all the time in the city gardens!

Nicky I have been looking out for a Roo knitting pattern,(he’s not forgotten) but as you say very, very hard to find, thought any kangaroo pattern would be a starting point and you could use pics of Roo to get the character right but even that is proving elusive. I have ordered every toy knitting book in our county stock to look through and see if there is anything suitable for a starting point, and we have so many great knitters in the forum to help with advice for you to personalise it. The books are coming through one by one but nothing yet, I’ll keep at it until I have exhausted every avenue - you never know he might be just around the corner! hmmm

Of course if you knitted one it could be as funky as you like??????????????????

Here’s another idea - this bag is made up of bits and pieces of oddments left from the things I’ve knitted for my Granddaughter Abi.

I started knitting a 4inch tension square to experiment with a stitch, then another, then another.... then - hey presto after a while had so many in the bottom of my knitting basket by my chair (some people have a log basket or magazine holder - I have a big knitting basket, but that doesn’t stop things creeping across the floor and onto other bits of furniture, ha ha!) I started stitching them all together, I was going to make a bath mat but wandered off on a tangent, sewed the sides together, then did some ribbing round the top and lined it with leftover furnishing calico; using a couple of folded strips for the handles. No cost, all scraps, just time used.

So many ideas so little time… good luck everyone who’s experimenting.

How’s the felting experiments grin going Nicky?

Love the bag Jane...it’s great.  Does it matter if your squares are all done in different kinds of yarn..I have so many small pieces in my knitting bag that would probably only knit small squares.  (sent you a wee pm) smile

Getting myself in a computer muddle again! the ‘quote reply seems to be going wrong now!

Nessa you can use any thickness up but try doubling up the thinner ones eg 4 & 3 plies so they end up similar to DK then they should all wear at the same rate. I just make sure everything will hand wash at least so you can freshen it up now and again. Its not like something you need to wash a lot. Just play around with ideas and if you get squares you are not happy with save them towards yet another project!!! Tiny bits go in to make a stripey square or a ‘square made up of 4 smaller ones!! The sky is the limit - how about a cushion front? go for it Nessa: Jane x

I saw the knitting bag on page 18 of the new LK and when I read the price my shriek brought HwN in to ask what was wrong!!!!!! There is absolutely no way that I would pay that for a knitting bag that I know I could make for myself for a tiny fraction of that, hand made or not.  I think most of you might agree or do you think it is a reasonable price or is it me who is out of touch???????????  confused ohh

I know Gill, I thought exactly the same thing! Lovely bag though.

Thanks for all the ideas everyone. I love both the knitted bags and will almost certainly be having a go at both. I’ve looked for the Berroca one and can’t seem to buy the yarn in this country! Scuppered again. If anyone knows differently, please shout.

Thanks again!

I agree Gill, I wouldn’t pay that for a bag for my knitting either even though it was lovely!  I wouldn’t mind trying to make my own similar one though.

I got a nice bright tote bag today in John Lewis which now has my latest knitting project in it.  It was £8.  wink

I got the two i posted on the charity post for 99p each in one of the shops near here and they are HUGE. They are also made of a fabric which allows the yarn to breath, so no musty smells if it stays there a while........not that it will tongue wink

This is the bag I got today, but it’s probably going back to the shop as I’ve seen tonight another bag that I’m going to order instead!

Will post a pic of the other bag too once I get it. wink
