Inspired by our very own Gill...why not have a knitalong of something that’s all done on two pins? Like NORMAL! None of this circular/dpn nonsense. I can do it if I have to but I far prefer pairs of straight pins. Anyone up for it?

I like the look of Jeanie:

I’ve got some ace yarn that would work brilliantly on it.

I’m definitely up for it!

But my suggestion would be the Juno Regina in Knitty Fall 2007:

I really like the pattern and it is on my “must knit list"… just have to buy some yarn for it though =)

hi girls, Fab idea Kathleenalice, where have you been I omly thought to myself this morning we haven’t heard from you for a day or so. at least you come back with a blinder.
They are both very pretty but I can just picture my boys kidnapping a shawl of any kind and using it as a picnic blanket for teddies and various other soft toys. No matter how many blankets I make/give them they find something else like my teatowels etc!! Boys will be boys I suppose.

Oooh, I LOVE Juno Regina even more than Jeanie! How about we wait and see how many takers we have in a few weeks and all start together?

Sounds like a very good plan, I’ve promised two lots of charity knitting so I can get on with some more of that and try and finish my other projects too.

Sounds great! I’ve just started a new project which I hope to finish before I start with another projet =) I have set a limit to one project at a time because I know that if I start something new I will totally forget about the previous one.

Sorry for any spelling mistake (edit: and grammar too), had a long night writing an essay and I just handed it in so I’m really tired. I guess that’s the payback for starting late with the damn thing...=)

Right - I’ve added it to my queue on Ravelry and I’ve decided on my yarn (some lush blue/green stuff I bought in Tunisia). I’ve got another KAL project first, though.

How difficult is this pattern if you’ve never knit lace or used charts before?

I’d love to have a go, but I’m scared!

How difficult is this pattern if you’ve never knit lace or used charts before?

I’d love to have a go, but I’m scared!

Don’t be scared of charts.  I have only knit 3 items from lace charts and it’s surprisingly straight forward once you get going.

If you get it right first time then obviously that would be great. But if you don’t, it’s not the end of the world.  Leave it for a while and come back to it another time. It’s great to learn something new, but not at the expense of your sanity or enjoyment.

The main thing is not to be intimidated. It does take a bit of practice to get into the habit of reading charts.  I have the attention span of a gnat and I figure if I can do it anybody can!

When I take a fancy to a lace project I always knit a swatch in DK weight yarn to see the actual lace pattern evolve.  If I can’t knit it in DK yarn I ain’t gonna be able to knit it in laceweight yarn! I also need to see and feel the lace with my own hands - I find it difficult to visualise what it should look like from the photos and from the charts.

To help reading the chart, here’s what I do:

- Print off one chart per page, enlarging it as big as I can.
- Write down or colour code each symbol and what it means.  Make it nice and clear so that you can see it at a glance.
- It’s also worth noting whether whether the decreases lean to the left or the right.  This makes it easier to check your knitting as you work.
- Use a ruler or post it note to keep track of each row as you work it.
- use a highlighter to mark off completed rows.

Whatever happens, I’m sure you’ll figure it out!  There’s bound to be lots of great ideas and tips from other members on here regarding lace knitting.

Oh, BTW, you should definitely check out Eunny Jang’s lace knitting tutorials if you have the time. Here’s a link to the first one: http://www.eunnyjang.com/knit/2006/03/majoring_in_lace_introduction_1.html

Good luck!

Thanks for the encouragement Craftybernie.  That tutorial looks great, from the quick peek I’ve had!

Guess that’s me counted in on this knitalong when it gets going!

Don’t panic! Lace is easier than it looks and this is relatively straightforward. It’s also all written out as well as giving you the charts if you’d rather work from that - though i hear that once you figure out charts, you won’t go back.

I’ll keep my eye on this thread as I do like that pattern, am really trying to limit the number of projects I have on the go.  “Trying” being the optimum word, I now have 3 on the go though one of them is ALMOST finished!

What yarn would be best for this pattern?
