Hi....is there any Scottish knitters on the fourm.....because I don’t think any of the English knitters are talking to me… and I would love to talk to all of you
I’ve just found this forum and am looking forward to making some new knitting friends and learn new things as I go along here. Hope someone will take pity on a new Scottish member
Hi, sorry you feel that the English knitters are not talking to you, i’m new here as well and looking forward to making new friend, see. . . we have made a new friend each already.
hi Nessa, ther’s quite a few Scots online. I’m English but live in Scotland, In East Lothian, about 16 miles east of Edinburgh. There’s Fifers onsite too.
I think there’s a cup match on today, so there may be a few distractions keeping people offline....
Hi fingersandthumbs and suse.....thank you for your replies...I don’t feel so lonely now It’s nice to meet you both.
Yes my son’s favourite team is playing today Glasgow Rangers....although he lives in the Netherlands now and doesn’t get to see them play.....but I’m sure he will be listening in on the radio to the game.
I have only just found this forum (I have bought the last three issues of LK and only just found the chat room) so I am looking forward to making new friends from both sides of the border
Hope to chat again soon.
Hi I’m from kinross in perthshire and am just learning to crochet at the moment. I go to a local group which is great fun. Do any of you know of any good yarn shops in scotland? Am struggling to find any!
Hi Tanna I stay about 8miles from Ayr and there is no good knitting shops here in Ayr. Sometimes when out on my husbands’ motorbike we take a run to Castle Douglas and they have a lovely wee shop full of wool. Limited space on a bike but try my best.
Hope this helps
Anne
there arent many up this way (Perth and Kinross) but there is one in Newburgh called the Twist Fibre Studio, she has beautiful thngs, a lot of Rowan and branded stuff, there is one in Perth in North Methven Street called The New Wool Shop (imaginative!!) and Di Gilpin has a shop in Perth too, thats one i look in and dream cos its lovely wool but lovely prices too! There are more out towards Dundee and a really good one in Kirriemuir but that isnt really local to Kinross. There are a couple of wool stands at Kinross market on a Sunday too. Hope this helps
Hello why are no knitters replying to you. How long have you been knitting and what have you learnt so far. My name is Susan and I have been knitting for 30 years now so its like riding a bike to me although I do want to learn more of the dodgy stuff. I live in Dagenham, Essex so if you dont mind chatting to a Londoner then respond back.
Hi Susan....thank you for your replies...and since I last posted I have had a few more...thank you all
I have been knitting for more than thirty years and now that I am at home I find I have lots of time to do more projects. That may change by the end of the summer when my other half retires...don’t quite know what I’ll do when he’s under my feet all day...give him some needles and yarn too
I had purchased the last three of LK but only just found the forum and it looks very interesting. I have also found lots of good online sites where I purchase most of my patterns and yarn from nowadays as our local yarn shop is limited.
I’ve just finished the ‘Flower Power’ sweater in cotton for my little grand daughter in the Netherlands and am thinking of starting the ‘Angelique’ cardi for her mama. In between I like to keep up a supply of baby ‘stuff’ for charities and for anyone around me expecting a baby.
All in all I need things on my needles at all times and I’m sure you are the same. Thank you again for your reply and I look forward to chatting again.

Ann...what direction are you from Ayr....I too am approx nine miles from Ayr and normally used the wool shop on the Old Brig but find it limited. I have been shopping online for a few months now for my yarn and patterns. If you haven’t used the online ones I can give you the names of the ones I have used so far and their delivery has always been very fast.
I have been in the Castle Douglas shop...it is good too and it has lots of art and craft stuff as well. It’s a pity the other little yarn shop at the bottom of the street in Castle Douglas closed down. Nice talking to you...let me know what direction from Ayr you are.
Hi KnittingOma, sorry we’ve been a bit quiet this weekend, we’re not ignoring you! I wasn’t able to come on the forum at all over the past couple of days as we’re waiting for our home internet to be delivered
There are a couple of wool stands at Kinross market on a Sunday too. Hope this helps
Thanks sockmonster. I tend not to go to the market as I have 2 young boys (very unrulely (sp)) but might try. The others might have to wait till have saved up for some good yarn. I think I have been to a Di Gilpin shop in St Andrews? is it the same one?

Hello Tasha...I don’t know Edinburgh well but we have the same problem here in Ayrshire. There is about one yarn shop per town and that means travelling about just to get what you want. I have started purchasing online mostly now and there are some great sites. I have used three different ones now and their srivice is great and deliveryvery fast...usually withing three to four days. I also find that I am enjoying browsing the sites and their stocks of patterns and yarns very comfortably from my own home and tend to find what I want sometimes at a cheaper price online. Have you tried any online yarn shops? I can give you the sites I use if you want to try.
