I think the NHS & Irelands health service should have knitting and crochet as part of their quit smoking programmes! I quit 3 years ago and keeping the hands busy was one of the BIGGEST aids! Well done all you fellow smoke free zones!!!

I agree! I quit only recently and having the knitting nearby to keep me busy is really helping, I tried to quit twice before but not having anything to do with myself hindered my attempts, this time i’m lasting way longer than before and I think the habit is kicked once and for all, i think about knitting instead of smoking lol

I just saw that “Knit to Quit” again LOL You could start weekly meetings for “knitters” “quitters” “hope to knit & hope to quit!” LOL

When I finally managed to quit my 40+ a day 30 year habit..it was a combo of Yoga, crochet, and 2 websites.

I replaced cigarettes with wool lol!

Luckily I wasnt smoking for too long only about two years or so.. stress of college and stuff, then my partner was getting on my case about it and I knew he was right, one day i smoked myself out having coffee with a friend of mine, must have smoked a pack in a few hours chatting away and drinking coffee and felt a bit unwell afterwards so that made up my mind for me, i was like I dont wanna be like this when i’m 50!!

well done you girls on giving up the fags, its not easy, two of my brothers took a while to give up and it was a struggle for them.
I think any form of craft will help dieters, ex smokers etc as your hands are busy and your mind is occupied and you are doing something positive, creative and lovely.

Well done all the quitters, I did it 3 years ago, wasn’t knitting then but did lots of cross stitch. I agree with the post about training fellas, I have never hid anything, I work and earn my own cash. If my husband comments I remind him what he spends.

Part of the reason I gave up was that I was knitting and realised that I hadn’t had one for over an hour or so, plus my daughter became pregnant, and yes I say that thing to my husband if he moans about the amount of wool I buy, you stop smoking and I will buy less, lol (not that I will of course lol) x Janet
