hellooooooo sock-a-long-ers…

right, here’s my first sock i knit over a few days last week:

2421655856_c2061492e7.jpg

looks ok there, right? well, the ankle is sooooo baggy and so’s the heel. look at this:

2421655716_b5c3fe06f8.jpg

The pattern was utterly unfathomable so I just made a lot of it up as I went along. I doubt I’d be able to make the same sock again.

And here’s my first progress pic of what i am determined will be my first finished pair.

I’m using the twist pattern from issue 3. It’s going like a dream so far...but I’ve not come to the heel yet. Who wants to take bets on me stuffing that up?!

Hi, if my first sock goes as well yours I will be very chuffed, so it bags a little round the ankle but it does more than resemble a sock. It’s all a learning curve and after following another pattern you may even be able to fathom out the previous one. Well done and keep us posted I aim to have started my first pair by the end of the weekend and will probably be wailing at my own incredible stupidity by Sunday evening. LOL

Wow what a great first sock.
I STILL haven’t got past the first few rows with the pattern I’m attempting for one reason or another decided to put them on hold till kids go back to school may have more of a chance of getting it right without all the interuptions.

Good luck with the next attempt.

Hi Gang.
I have posted this on another on news but it is about socks and wanted to tell everyone.

I HAVE MASTERED DPNs. YES I HAVE DONE IT.

I cant believe it gave myself till july for when go on sock workshop but done it since yesturday.

I AM DEAD DEAD PROUDE.

I had no aim just knitted so i could do it.

i have found something out. Loads have asked about first stitch and getting it tight. Well i by accident knitted in from the side to my first stitch. So i was coming from behind the previous row and it has made the first and last stitch tighter. Also i can pull tighter on the yarn far better. This i still do as been told.

Am I right you are supposed the come into the front of the row when you knit the first stitch.

Also I found that when you get so far up the sock you do not have to balance the needles. Is this also right?
They seem to balance thereselves.

Sorry to waffle a second time But am so excited
Take care love Nicci xxxx#
Well im off to knit some more with my DPNs

Aw, thanks guys. The purple one’s going much better. I’ve turned the heel now and I’m a few rows into the foot. I reckon I’ll finish it tomorrow and have a full pair by maybe wednesday.

Maybe after that I’ll frog the orange-y one and start again.

Corinne - yours looks much better than mine! How does it feel on your foot? It looks really scrummy.

Nicci - it sounds like you’re getting along really well. Yes, I find that after the first few rows on DPNs the needles hold themselves in place. I’ve not tried going in the back of the first stitch. Wouldn’t that mean there’d be a line up your work when you finished?

Oooh, more progress pics!

First one finished, second underway. This pattern is brilliant - I must say well done to the ladies at LK for making it so easy to understand. I did have a moment of panic one night, but I slept on it and woke up with the solution.

I’ve had a bit of a hole, but I’ve put a stitch in since I took that photo and it’s not noticable now.

All done! FO post:

http://letsknit.co.uk/knitting_forum/viewthread/406/

I seemed to have anti-second-sock-syndrome...the second one seemed to just fly off the needles!

Well done for finishing your socks and also being one of the brave and posting a pic of yourself!! It’s nice to put faces to names. And before you ask wheres mine I’ve tried to put one in my profile several time but it keeps rejecting it. Went on my Ravelry one first time but maybe this forum doesn’t like the look of me!!! cheese

Finished socks!  I didn’t do the heel turns as stated in the pattern but they still work, just don’t look as good! lol

I’ve started working on a pair for my dad now in Regia sock yarn that stripes in blue and grey so as soon as there’s enough worth taking a piccie of, I’ll post one of those too.

I’ve got another sock pattern and the wool for it as well.  It’s only on 2 needles though so much easier and actually has a pattern in it.  But I wanted to get some socks done for my Dad for his birthday which is Sunday so I need to get a move on!

These are the ones I’m knitting for my Dad using Regia sock yarn.  Exactly the same pattern but I’m going to try and do the heel turns properly this time!  LOL
