finished my first pair of socks when I was holiday, and they were very comfy in my hiking boots! The second pair is well under way, this could be very addictive!

Nice colours.  My sister knits socks, I don’t have the time, too many other things to knit.  When I retire, I’m going to have a go.

They look great Suse, really pretty colours. Well done.
I still have the stuff their waiting to cast on but haven’t plucked up the courage. My niece wants some for christmas so i think i’d better pull my finger out as knowing me I’ll be frantically trying to finish them off christames eve.

I was a bit concerned about knitting socks to begin with so I got a kit and then couldn’t understand the instructions! lol Luckily my mum showed me how to use the 5 DPNs (you have the stitches on 4 and use the 5th to knit with - believe me, that may sound obvious but when you’ve never used them before, it’s not!) and after that it was great until I got to the heel.  I couldn’t figure out what the pattern was on about at all but I got it eventually.  I persevered and managed to complete one sock and after that the 2nd one was easier (although when I got to the heel, I’d forgotten how I’d done it the last time! oops!) and when I knitted another pair for my dad, it was a doddle!  Because you’re knitting round and round, it comes along so quickly.  My pattern was just st st so it was dead simple - just knit stitch all the time!

I’ve got another pattern somewhere from Regia that I’d like to have a go at and then maybe I’ll try one of the more complicated patterns! lol I may be able to knit a sock but I can’t do cables and I’ve never attempted Fairisle or Intarsia!

not really , once I’d got to grips with holding the dpn’s. the first few rows feel a bit odd but when there’s a few on it takes shape and you get more confidence. Bear in mind I’ve only been knitting since October, so its more a question of me being curious than having years of experience behind me.

Funnily enough, my MIL was very impressed, she was a champion knitter, but she never got the hang of socks!

It might be useful for anyone who’s interested to watch a video before they start
