has a haberdashery department!  Not that you’d know it as the store refuses to put any advertising in their window or on the ground floors.  Basically, if you don’t know it’s there you won’t know it’s there!  And they’ve got a good wool sale on at the moment.  Any they do a knit and chat group on Mondays and Thursdays (2-3pm unfortunately for me).  I think this is typical of department store thinking, it’s not a big ticket item so they don’t bother to highlight its presence.  But as I was saying to the assistant (after I bought 5 balls of Rowan Kidsilk Night for 18.50(!)) we knitters may not spend all our money in one go but we will keep coming back!

Anyway, if anyone is working (as I do) in Birmingham city centre and wishes to drop in, please do so, the ladies would love to see you.

Tell them I sent you!

LOL

I have visited the haberdashery dept in HoF a few times. It’s a Coats concession which is probably why they don’t advertise. I have to confess I didn’t know anything about it until last Oct/Nov and that was only because Hubby went to Hamleys in there and told me, (boy did he regret that) back then they were on the 6th floor. They moved down to the fourth floor sometime in the new year and I had a little panic Easter when I went and couldn’t find it. I just thank God that I asked an asisstant if they had removed it altogether as I was about to walk out in tears when it wasn’t where it used to be. I’ve been meaning to get up there all week to see what is left of the sale stock and if I don’t go tomorrow while Zakk is still at school then I may not get there at all.
All the years I worked in Bham city center I used Beatties as it was right next to my nearest exit when I worked at WHSmiths, literally up two flights of stairs for me (I worked in the basemeant) and through two sets of doors and presto I was there. It was nearer than the cantten and loos thinking about it which I had to go up four floors for!!!!! Beatties has long gone now though.

Thanks Sash!  I went into Rackhams last time I was in Birmingham and couldn’t find the haberdashery anywhere, and unlike Nicky didn’t have the sense to ask someone.  I thought they must have closed it.  Unfortunately I don’t get to Birmingham too often but when I do I always go into Rackhams (too fond of the scones in the top floor restaurant)so will search it out.
