Well, it had to happen sometime didn’t it!  It’s only a baby blanket for a friend but it’ll be the first thing that I’ve designed myself.

It’s fairly simple however!  I had a pattern for a panelled blanket which I made for my son before he was born but I can’t find the pattern now.  So I figured I would make one up myself!  It’s got a lot of stitches cuz I wanted it to be fairly big so it’s going to take me a while to get anywhere with it.  I will, of course, post up a piccie when I eventually get it finished!

Don’t forget to post a picture.  I think you’re brave designing stuff yourself.  I’m very much a follow the pattern type of person and don’t deviate much.

It’s going to take some time before I’ve managed to get anything worth showing off!  I’ve cast on 265 stitches and only knitted 3 1/2 rows so far! lol

I’m using Patons Fairytale Cuddles DK, shade 7313.  I only have 3 balls so I’m hoping I can get it to go far enough.  If not, I’ll be on the hunt for somewhere that still sells it!  (Actually just found someone selling a pack of 10 balls of just the colour I need on Ebay!  Woo hoo!)

Here’s what I’ve done so far…

That looks lovely - the moss stitch gives lovely texture doesn’t it.

Good luck with it and can’t wait to see it finished. I think you will definitely need more than 3 balls tho (sorry) although it will depend on yardage of course, cos I knitting the Tiny Tots Basketweave blanket by Sirdar and that’s only 92 stitches cast on for 24 inches with a 1 inch garter stitch border on the long edges (in other words a pram/car seat blanket) and that takes 3x50g balls!

Yeah - I bought 10 balls of exactly the same yarn (to quote Harry Hill: “What are the chances of that happening, hmmmm?") from Ebay.  Just got to pick them up from the post office.  Same dye and lot number and everything!

I’m almost finished the second ball and I’ve got as far as my first row of squares… when I get a minute, I’ll take another piccie (hopefully mid row so you can see the pattern properly) and post it up here
