Hi, thought I would try out posting here just to say Hi and introduce myself to the forum and… well… see if it works as I am not very technical!!

I have been knitting very imperfectly off and on since I was about 10 and my poor nan tried to teach me. I am one of those flipping awkward lefties who has her own ‘style’ of knitting that I taught myself when ds was a baby (never did finish THAT jumper for him actually -might be a bit small now seeing as he is 8!)

I live in Italy and have done for a year but discovered Let’s Knit over xmas and have been hooked ever since! My poor sister has to buy it and send it for me, so as a huge thanks I am just attempting to knit the portia cardie for her from issue 6...anything I should know??!! I was hoping to have it done for her birthday in sept but if it is hard then maybe xmas!!… or easter....or!!!!

Apart from ds i also have my lovely dd who is almost 5 and long suffering dh (who isn’t actually my husband but dh is shorter to write then any other set of adjectives) You look like a friendly bunch and often go off topic I’ve noticed so I think I should fit in here just fine if there is still space on the sofa...... no not the blue one, the red one -it looks comfier.

Welcome to the forum Indiebird...it is gret that you have joined us from Italy.  It is a small world...and the mags seem to get read in a lot of countries.  I’m sure your sister will be thrilled with her cardie when you get it finished...so keep going and don’t give up.  You must post a pic of it when it is done....you’ll see quite a lot of pictures in the forum of finished objects that we post just to let each other see our work.  Do you knit for you daughter?  You must let us see a pic of her too.  Do you like living in Italy?  I hope you enjoy the forum...we’re a friendly bunch here and if you need any help with your knitting just SHOUT...there will always be someone around.

Thanks for all the lovely welcome mssgs. Have been looking through the forum but can’t find the correction for portia. Is there a way to do a search here? When I figure out photos I will post some here for you all to see of my 2 little ones. I haven’t knitted for the kids yet, well apart from some egg cosies at easter that were a big hit. Have been fighting with my first pair of socks on 4 needles for ages and have now put them ‘away’ for a while as I’ve had enough for the time being!

Click on the magazine home page in pink at the top of the page. On the right hand side underneath the lady at the spa there is a header for pattern corrections to click onto. It’s not situated on the forum itself just the website.

Hello and welcome.  Which part of Italy do you live in?  If it’s one of those lovely (never been to Italy, but I can imagine)parts that gets warm weather all year round, then I’m going to be sick with envy.

I live in a little town just north of Turin at the foot of the Alps. Very beautiful to me but not one of those famous places… and it is hot in summer but freezing in winter and there is good skiing less than an hr away, but I am not a natural skier tbh!! Not many peeps speak English so it is a steeeeeeeeep learning curve at the mo. Of course my 4yo dd is fluent and ds at 8 is not far behind her but as for me well.... I have no problem with food!  red face and you’ll all be pleased to know that I have managed to buy wool and needles too so it’s not all bad. DH works in English (some computery type thing -I don’t actually know exactly what he does) so he is still learning too. We will get there eventually I suppose....

A friend of mine lived in Italy, can’t for the life in me remember where, for 18 years and loved it.  Both her daughters were born there and when they all came back to the UK, the daughters had to learn to speak English.  Sue’s husband was Italian.
