Hiccupses. This site is prone to them. Where are all the newbies’ stories peeps?? This thread is slipping away, being forgotton, vanishing into the ether....dying....dying....
gazumped by pepperpots and fantasy knitting and the wonderful Ravelry…
goodbye dear thread…
I won’t forget you xxx
Nice to see we have another candidate for the padded cell. At least there will be plenty of company.
My first adventure with wool was with my grandmother when i was eight..she tried to show me the basics with a ball of white wool..it was black by time I gave up!....Fast forward..age 18, the moment I became an addict to wool, was in crochet, making a baby outfit for my son...it wasn’t for another 10 years that I picked up knitting pins again. I still love crochet first, but knitting, is so close behind it might as well be a tie! My first knitting project was a chunky crew neck jumper for my son. I also had a knitting machine and made lots of baby things for a Dublin market stall for a few years. I didn’t like the machine as much, just not the same as having the needles & wool in hand!
Oh Gayle the pics are lovely! I absolutely LURRVE the blankets - especially the zigzag one - bet that was crochet - which I am ashamed to say I can’t do YET…
Can’t remember what my first knit was - I know when my nan taught me to knit - it was just after I was 9 in the summer hols. But what the article was? Flummoxed thats what I am… I pretty sure it woulda been fairly terrible - tho having said that I don’t think my nan woulda let me leave mistakes etc in - she woulda had me frogging for my life!
Yeah, I don’t think my Grandma made me frog but she fixed many many mistakes for me...a fact she reminds me of now when she hears of my yarny exploits!
Cor yeah I wish mine was still around. I could show her all the lovely things I’ve knitted. Well pictures of them anyway! I KNOOW she wouldn’t understand “this” tho!!

Grannies are wonderful things
Well, some of them. hohohohohohohohohohohohohohohohohohohohoho.
Both my grans knitted. I remember falling asleep to the sound of needles clicking.
My first recolection of knitting was at school during those Home Economic classes. It was one of those modern progressive schools where each term you were taught new things (pottery, cooking, woodwork, sewing and knitting).
We had to knit a tank top and some gloves. I never finished the tank top. For some unknown reason my left glove was pointy at the top /\ while my right glove was perfectly crafted....hmmm I wonder why that was.
Hello Demiz...welcome to the forum. Glad you have joined us...we’re a friendly bunch of knitters and you’ll soon get to know everyone...so hope you post plenty and enjoy your knitting…
My first attempt at knitting - after the obligatory scarf for my Sindy doll, was a whole set for my baby doll. It was in pink and fashioned out of rectangles ‘cos I didn’t know how to decrease or increase, so I just casted on or off to get the shaping. That was probably more than 42 years ago - doesn’t bear thinking about.
Just into socks now - My auntie Nance would be so proud of me working out how to turn a heel on my own!!
Can’t do photos either - must be an age thing.
Hi everyone!! My first attempt at Knitting again was in July and I completed a Bergere de France cropped cardi which was advertised in the lets knit book, I was soo impressed I completed it and wasn’t even bothered that the rib should have been garter stitch and I did it in stocking stitch!
I have loads of projects on the go now and look forward to my days off work to get going on which ever one needs finishing off.
Anyway great to find so many knitters out there!
