on another group they have a thing called RAK list, and I just thought wouldn’t it be nice to have one on here, anyone intrested????
I copied this so to explain how it works ect
RAK = Random Act of Kindness.
This could be a card or an ATC, it could be a few craft goodies, a cuddly toy, stationary, pampering goods, or whatever else takes your fancy These are sent to somebody on the RAKs list for no other reason than because you want to send them
It’s lovely to receive items in the post alongside the normal humdrum bills and statements, and also nice to know you are putting a smile on someones face by sending something unexpected and, well, random!
Hi Sheila, yeah I’m interested. Especially if you have got craft magazines that you no longer want but someone else might.
Or even a UFO that you are having trouble with. Oooh, maybe a pattern that you cant quite get so you ask for help, someone says they will help, you send the needles, some wool and a copy of the pattern. Then they send it back with a swatch.
Yeah, thats what I mean. Expansion is a good thing!
I think I read somewhere that its like a “Quilting Bee” where the first person makes a patchwork square of 12 inches, sends it off to the next person on the bee list and so on and then when it is completed the Quilt goes to a volunteer to quilt it. The quilt then gets sent back to the “moderator” who then donates it to a chosen charity.
Its similar in the sense if you have trouble with a pattern there is always someone that you can post it off too to have a try!
I think the idea is OK, but I have reservations on how it would work in practise. At the moment we have a lovely set of peeps all having a natter over the airwaves and having problems with knitting, crochet or even hubbies and kids, discussed and pondered and often sorted out, so I am not sure of how many would want to go further. Who would “moderate”? What if someones precious piece of work got lost?

A lot more dicussion to come methinks.
as I said at beginning only a thought, and yeah i agree alot more dicussion to be had of course
I quite like the idea of the quilt, only instead of a quilt we could do knitted squares and attach them to make a big blanket for charity. I’d be worried though about it going missing in the post as it passed from person to person.
Just a suggestion - rather than pass the growing object from person to person, which would start to get expensive as it grew as well as the risk of it going missing, one person could act as recipient for all the squares and make it up. We could have several on the go with maker-uppers in different parts of the country, with the finished item going to a local charity (or a local branch of a bigger charity). They could be totally random, or we could have a theme (colour or something) for each one.
It would use up all those odd balls of wool we all have as well
i like the idea of knitting squares to send off to someone to make a blanket, they could be donated to a hopsital for use with prem babies etc. gives me a chance to practice new knitting styles without having to knit a big thing. count me in
I am in and happy to volunteer to be maker upper, if it’s a go...it would be fun to practice different knitting techniques, once the size is set for each square, the skies the limit!
Count me in I like the idea. Crochet squares would be great as well it could help to make it unique and a reall effort from everybody that took part. Maybe LK would supply us with an address where we could send it and they could have someone sew it all together as one large piece or several different sizes for cots and beds. The Elderly ar always cold so it would be great to have some blankets that they could use over their knees or on the bed. Every one could submit an idea as to where they would be best used.
