popped into my local charity shop today and they had loads of patterns for 25p each some of them way before i was born! when people rave about retro patterns and knitting, what kind of things are they on about? it all seemed to be twin sets and bonnie baby stuff and even jumpers with characters on them (and that was the adult ones!!).

As a knitter of mature years!!!!! wink anything between 1960 and 1980 seem to be called retro and anything before 1970 seems to be called vintage so it is no use asking me because to me vintage is pre 1949!!!!! I dont think anyone really knows as it appears that any knitter over 50 is past it as far as the designers are concerned! rolleyes

25p???!!!  Quick, where is your charity shop?  But I think I’m the same era as Gill, to me vintage patterns would be 1940s/50s.

I went into a Clacton Charity shop and had absolutely no joy whatsoever.  Although it did serve a purpose - Tony was with me and he was a little fed up wandering round looking for bits - “can’t you get this in the wool shop at home instead of trawling round these shops”??  Cor what fun I could have with him....

You have to see past the dodgy hairdos and colours and look at the garment shape or type of stitch used etc. Vogue are a good example they have redone some of their vintage stuff with modern yarn and trendy models and you wouldn’t know the age of the pattern for most of them is from 50 years ago.

Well (snooty voice here) “Some of us” like to take pride in ones appearance, and as i always do I shall certainly be wearing my most special outfit.

At least ones jugs aren’t on show are they.

Oh God oh yes they are…

Poor window cleaner…
