Hi All

I don’t know if you have a Shaws near you but I found on visiting it for the first time the other day 400grms of Acrylic Dk wool for £1.99.  It feels quite a thick Dk but it feels lovely to knit up. Lots of great colours as well. Grat to mix and match for summer cardi’s.

Hi Welshwendy and welcome.  We have a shaws in our local town (Bridgend) and I absolutely love it. My mother does a lot of crocheting and could only find the big ball of wool in Port Talbot. I seen them in ours but when I went there last week they didn`t have any.

HI All

Thanks for all of your kind welcome messages.  I hope you can get some good bargains on the internet maybe Shaws have a website.

I tried to finish the rib last night but got distracted so that will be done later on, the weather is good but I don’t think we will go anywhere I can’t seem to get going this morning.  I should get to the pet shop to get another couple of gupies as friends for this one.

I am going into my little corner that I have made up in the hallway with all of my crafts in it to try and get a bit further with the lace piece while the light is still good.  That is the only problem with lace the light has to be right I do have a daylight lamp somewhere but can’t think where I have put it.

I hope you all have a good day with nice weather and good health.

Hugs

Wendy

Hi all
On the subject of ‘cheep’ wool, there are so few wool shops around nowadays, and most seem to have great wool but at expensive prices, understandable because of business overheads!
My solution - e-bay! I have got such bargains from Debbie Bliss wool to Sirdar Dune, and a wonderful Silk Aran I can’t wait to knit something with. I also browse regularly for patterns, there are some lovely modern designs to be snapped up.
Happy knitting everyone
Paula

Hi everyone
Wilkinsons do wool not sure how much though and a new shop has opened in my local town called home bargains, they have top of the range brands and their cheap stuff but also do wool. I picked up a nice fluffy type of wool for 50p a ball. I know it`s cheap but it turned out lovely, I made a shrug for my daughter. Lime green was the colour!!!

Hi I have bought quite a lot of wool in Wilkinsons and its usually 99p for the fancy and 99p for the other acrylic. I buy it for tots toys as you can sling it in the wash!! I would not use it for a special project though, you need a good quality yarn then but that is just my personal thing. I have made a blanket with the acrylic so that it could go into the washer as it turned out raather large!!!!I certainly would think carefully about a very large Pure Wool blanket because the thought of dry cleaning makes me flinch!!!!!!!! excaim

Instore do some really cheap yarn and needles - lots of basic acrylic DK for not very much money.

Abakhan (there’s one in Manchester and I think a couple of others and also a website) always have some amazing bargains in the sale - lots of big 1000g packs for £10.99 or thereabouts.

it sounds like you got a great bargain from shaws. I like the thought of your craft nook where you can focus on your projects in peace. I hope you find that daylight bulb soon!

I have brought wool from in-store, the double knit. it isnt bad for the money at all.

There is also a shop around the sunderland area called kemps wool shop, they have some FAB wools in the sale section, and have usually aqround 25 pages of sale wools. They also have patterns in the sale.

Personally, I havent brought a pattern yet, what with my magazine subscritption, and the endless free patterns on the net. I also trade patterns with several pensionser I know.

I got a lovely MASSIVE stash of wool off ebay for £10 plus postage, over 3kg of mixed yarns, different textures etc. It was a great buy of someone elses odds and ends that will be really usefull to me.

But I do agree most shops seem very expensive for wool these days

Lidl have some cheap aran and DK at the moment in my local one anyway, not sure if they all do.

Poundstretchers always sells fairly cheap wool, it is mostly acrylic but lovely and soft, I check out our local market stall as they usually have bargain bins, but as we all know Ebay can be great for picking up some bargains too x Janet

It’s not very often I buy wool specifically for one pattern, I buy patterns or books I see and the same with yarn and then match them up as projects later.
