Hey girls,

I have watched a video about how to knit with beads and I have worked it out now.  But I went to Hobbycraft this afternoon, (in Romford) and there were so many beads there I did not know what ones to get.

I never had the pattern for the drawstring bag in one of the issues so i dont know what beads to use.  I bought some crystal looking ones and the crochet hook.

Can someone post on here the make and size of the beads so I can stock up on them please!!!!!

Love

Sues

Hi Sues.

I am a Beader as well as a Knitter, but to my shame I have never beaded on my knitting!  I think what you have to do is get beads which have a hole big enough to be threaded onto your wool, if you were in Hobbycraft you shoulda just asked someone who works there - I sure they would be able to help you, even if it was after a fashion!

Sorry can’t be more help than that!

Sues was it the Zelda bag?  Pink with fluffy strands coming off all the way round? If it is click on patterns at the top of the page and it will be staring back at you!  The beads it says you need for it are: Beads: Kars Make Me Glass (faceted); 6mm sapphire blue x 2; 4mm sapphire blue x 22; 4mm tanzanite grey x 22.

If you ask for these in Hobbycraft and they don’t sell them they should be able to substitute them if you tell them what they’re for.  You also need a Beading needle as it is especially made to go through beads - ordinary needles WILL NOT (I REPEAT) WILL NOT go through the beads and you will probably end up breaking the needle and the beads if you try to force them through.  OK??

Hopefully that’s of more help than my last post!

Thanks leighb, i asked in hobbycraft but they are as useful as a chocolate teapot.  I went on “www.knittingstepbystep.com” and it shows you how to use beads.  Its really easy.

Will go back to hobbycraft this morning to have a better look.  Thanks for your help.

Love Sues

I find that an embroidery needle can work just as well, the beading needle is such a length. I was having trouble picking out beads for knitting and if anyone knows af a web site that does beads I would like to know. I have read your answer leighb and you will be pleased to know that you have helped another member of the fraternity of knitting. Thank you.

If you look at the advertising in the pages of LK you will find loads of ads for beads etc. MAD COW BEADS is one and there are lots more.

The only word of warning I would suggest is that an embroidery needle may (if the beads are on the small side especially) split the beads.  Beading needles do come in short and long lengths!  Unfortunately (and ashamedly, for a Beader) I have never beaded onto knitting.  I do know of a good website or two - http://www.beadsdirect.co.uk, or beadmerchant.co.uk are two I use - but I don’t know if the beads will be suitable for knitting with, as I use them for Jewellery making!  I really wish I could be of more help.  If you go onto Bead Merchants website, find their phone number and ring them - ask for Corinne - she is extremely helpful and will be able to tell you I would have thought - if their beads are suitable for knitting.  Hope this helps.
