Hi all
Please can anyone tell me if I have to do anything to start my own knitting group?
I have found a venue, put posters out now I am panicking that I need to organise things to do on the night.
Do people just sit and knit or will they expect some input from me?
By the way, it is starting on 14th July at the Boar’s Head in Ewloe, 6.30 start, if anyone is interested.
Thanks
Gill

Wish I was near you...I would come.  You’ve obviously put some work into getting this knitting group started....I’ve never attended a knitting group but probably for the first couple of weeks you could personally welcome everyone who comes and have a discussion on how you all want the group to be....probably everyone will be happy to sit and knit or crochet and very soon you will all be chatting together.  If anyone needs any help like a begiinner...there will be plenty of help within the group.  I hope your group is successfull and you’ll let us know how it goes....well done Gill.  I’m in Scotland.....too far to come downer  wink

Yup too far for me but good luck. If its any help at our knit club we just sit and knit/crochet and chat. We meet in a pub and so buy our own refreshments and enjoy the comments we get from people in the pub who are amused at what we are doing.
But asking the people who come is a good idea as to what they want/expect from it, there no point organising lots of things and finding yourself out of pocket and feeling a little let down if they don’t want that much distraction or if they do want more then taking their ideas on board is a sure fire way of getting them back again.
Hope it goes well and I’ll keep my fingers crossed for a good turn out.

Hi there - I go along to a knitting group every Friday morning - we all take our knitting - have a good chat - share patterns - knitting magazines and books - it may be a good idea if you provide tea/coffee biscuits/cakes - you could even ask each person to bring along some home made cake - you could also then share recipes.  Have fun and enjoy.  rosanbur. smile

Many thanks for your support!
I knew I could rely on you.
Thought I’d jot down some web addresses for free patterns etc. And of course the Let’s Knit web address!
Also thought of running a raffle and donating one of my felted money pots that I’m now addicted to knitting.  Money taken can then be used to buy future raffle prizes.  Think this would work?

Hi, my name is Lucy and I live near Ewloe (Drury to be precise).  I would be interested in joining your new group but I’ve got something else on on the 14th.  How often are you planning to meet?  Where have you put the posters?

I go to a knitting group once a month at Voirrey Embroidery Centre up the Wirral.  All we do there is sit around a big table, knit, chat & drink tea!!  Just see how many turn up and go with the flow.

Hope the first night goes well and hopefully I’ll see you at the next one!!

Hi Lucy
Sorry you can’t make the first meeting.
We are going to meet every 2nd Monday of the month so the next one will be 11th August - 6.30 start in The Boar’s Head.
I have put posters up in Ewloe post office, Holywell library, and have sent details to Living magazine (the local one) and Let’s Knit and Simply Knitting.  Do you think Drury post office would put one up for me?  Perhaps I’ll take a few around Buckley too.
I’m going to Borders in Cheshire Oaks next Tuesday evening.  They have a knitting group in the shop that starts at 6.30
I’ll let you know what happens.
