Sorry to shout, but I’ve just spent an hour trying to use 4 dpn’s.

how the fuddle doo do you do them? I’m trying to knit hubby a pair of socks, I’ve split the stitches between the needles and then have started off knitting the end of the row and then working my way round, putting the stitch with the wool on the spare needle i’m knitting the next lot of stitches onto.

is this right? am I making any sense at all?

heeeeeeeelppppppp!

That sounds about right to me. After you have split your sts into equal numbers around the 3/4 needles, you then use the spare, ie. 3rd or 4th needle (depends if you are using 3 or 4) to knit the first lot of sts off the needle. Then you have the empty needle which is then used to knit the 2nd lot of sts and so on round the needles till you get round to where you started. If you have put a marker on before you started to knit then that will be where you come to the end of the row. Then you knit all the way round again until you get to the bit of pattern you need to turn the heel or toe or whatever you are needing.
I hope you can understand all that???

OOOOOPS I should have said 4th OR 5th needle. If you are knitting on 4 then you need a 5th as your working needle. On 3 then the 4th is the working needle. I hope that has not confused you too much. red face

Hi.Good luck I won’t even attempt knitting dpns very thought brings me out in a sweat.I just use patterns for socks that are knit on straight needles.Use some good ones out of vintage 40’s knitting books.Too fiddly for me I love my big long massive heavy metal needles with chunky wool or more than one strand combined. My record is five strands of yarn at once though I have no intention of stopping there. You are a better man than I gungerding(sure spelling wrong but someone will know what I mean) as my Mom always says.Waggel
