I’m going to watch this with interest because I had some book vouchers for my birthday and I’m going shopping tomorrow. I had fully intended to use them for a new knitting book anyway but this will give me some ideas. Great subject Cheryl.

I’ve treated myself too with some new books recently...at the moment just browsed them but not chosen anything to knit....plenty of projects in them for the winter evenings....
The Nectar one is lovely and I would love to do almost everything in it....probably projects for the next five years tongue rolleye

Yes the books have some lovely stuff in them Cheryl but the Rowan and Patons yarns are getting very expensive so I think I might be looking for substitute yarn if I do any of the garments.  It’s the same with the patterns in the mags...they always seem to use the expensive yarns.  One of the jackets I liked in the Nectar book would have cost nearly £90 if using the Rowan yarn.....knitting is not cheap is it??? rolleyes

I wish my LYS had the posher yarns, they do a layby service so I would be able to spread the cost and find it easier. It would also encourage me to knit with more patience as I would have to space the payments out and so knitting too fast would leave big gaps before I could afford the next lot.

I tend not to mind if I am knitting for Maya (doting granny tongue rolleye )or if it is a special present for Izabela but I try not to get carried away. Usually I will look for a substitute yarn which is not so expensive.  It usually turns out just as well as the yarn used in the pattern.

I did use the Rowan cash cotton for the turquoise cardi on my flickr pics and it was really lovely to knit with but I’m quite sure a cheaper d/k would have done as well.

I’m not sure what I am going to cast on now...had a look through my stash when I was getting out the baby 4ply for you....there was some pale blue Sirdar calico which would knit up a summer cardi for Maya...(yes another one) I just can’t resist kitting for her.....one of these days she will tell me she doesn’t want knitted cardi’s from granny and then I will stop tongue wink LOL

Ah but hopefully you may have another baby to knit for instead. Nessa from what I’ve seen of your projects any little girl would be eager to wear them. I don’t think you have to worry about that for a very long time.

Thanks Nicky for your kind words....I wait in anticipation for news of another baby but I’m not so sure.  Iza was forty this year and Maya’s birth was very bad for her.  I think she would like another one but is a bit scared now....maybe once they are settled in their new home they will think of it again.

I managed to pick up Kaffe Fasset Glorious Knitting for 50p last week. I don’t really have a wish list as I seem to have more knitting books than I know what to do with already. rolleyes. The Den is somewhat stuffed to bursting now so any more books and I will not be getting in there. But then again..........  wink
