It is not hard. As long as you persevere and don,t give up. Somewhere on the threads there is a book but I am sure there will be someone with the info coming to the rescue soon. I could show you in person but I am hopeless at writing the instructions.
Don,t give up grin

Hiya Nitnics.

‘The Happy Hooker’ is a fab book and I’m not just saying that because it mentions it in the mag - I bought it at the start of the year and have made/am making about 5 crochet projects since.  I couldn’t get the hang of the left-handedness so I just crochet the way I knit, all right handed yarn feeding and the left holds the work and pushes stiches through.  There is an a-ha moment, and then it all comes together - promise!  Keep going, try to follow the instructions the way you knit if the hands feel awkward at all, if that makes sense. Good luck, let me know how it goes…

You’re not the only one NicKnits - I’ve managed a chain and that’s it! LOL  I’ve got a few crochet books and I love the Amigurumi stuff but I just can’t get the hang of it!  I’m hoping I can persuade someone to come to my knitting group and teach us all how to do it cuz we’ve all been moaning about how we just don’t get it! haha!

I’ve got the Happy Hooker book but I’m still struggling :-( I think I’ve nearly managed double crochet but I’m not sure! I’ll keep trying!

crochet has taken me on and off about 3 weeks before i actually knew what i was doing. Firstly holding the yarn is very different, and for ages i felt like i needed another hook to get the loops over each other.
But now I can do most of the stitches and even a granny square! Maybe I’ll keep practicing with squares of stitches and sew it together into a blanket.
But its taken me ages to just get the basics down. I think its harder for a knitter to learn crochet, than a hooker to learn knitting.

Keep going and count how many times you throw the yarn and hook across the room. I think I got upto 10 before i stopped counting lol.
Oh and I find it easier to crochet in the round than than straight across.

hi nicknits i was taught to crochet by my granny at the age of 8 and it like second nature apart from knitting - if it helps check out video jug.co.uk and click onto leisure & hobbies and you will find the knitting and sewing section and there you can watch a video of a lady crocheting this should help as you can watch it over and over and try and follower her at your own pace hope this helps

search “crochet” on youtube - I’ve done it several times when i didn’t understand a knitting technique - it’s so much easier when you can actually see someone else do it!!

Hi, the book i suggeste earlier is really good for beginners. Its got detailed photographic pictures in colour and shows you each stage from yarn over needle to pull through hoop.

Its called Learn to Crochet by Sue Whiting.  I will get the ISB No for you later because its in my bedroom and but my hubby is asleep, (on nights).

Hope this helps.

Love Susan

I spent a whole day at a Rowan Workshop at John Lewis in Bluewater last year. Crochet for beginners. I can tell you exactly what I had for lunch and how scrummy the cakes were with afternoon tea, but I can’t for the life of me remember how to crochet!!! smirk
